STUDIO                                                                                                        White Architecture Studio

WAS is a New York City based boutique architecture studio with a dynamic team of talented professionals.  We combine innovation and rigor to create inviting and functional environments, which are the unique result of both the people who inhabit them and the place they inhabit in the world.

It is our belief that no two projects are the same, nor should their physical manifestations be based solely on one architectural viewpoint.

The highest standards of our craft are a constant for all projects, however our flexible and nimble nature tailors our process to the unique circumstances of each project and its team members.

Our refined process is equally suited to bespoke residences;  engaging cultural and not-for profit facilities;  well-informed work spaces;  as well as distinctive hospitality and retail environments.  Our clients include private individuals, cooperatives and condominium associations, as well as corporate and not-for-profit entities.

We pride ourselves on offering extraordinary client service.  Discretion, privacy and mutual respect are paramount.  Active communication, responsiveness and always being available are essential attributes of managing each of our projects and recognized distinctions of our professional relationships.

Our thoughtful and unique approach toward each project also extends to our project teams.  We tailor the best-suited team of high-caliber professionals for each project, and we endeavor to be exceptional partners with all of our design, technical and construction industry collaborators.

While we foster every project from concept to completion with the same care, discipline and high standards; we also strive for each to be better than the last.

TEAM

Steven Martin White, AIA

Drawing from almost thirty years of high-caliber architectural experience, Steven has guided the design and construction of many award-winning buildings and interiors. This body of work includes cultural, institutional and residential projects of varying scales and across a multitude of international locations.

As a Senior Architect with the acclaimed international firm Safdie Architects, he worked on several prominent projects such as The City Library in Salt Lake City;  the Khalsa Museum in Punjab, India; and Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem.

With Harry Elson Architect as the Senior Associate, he managed a variety of private residential projects in NY, NJ, CT & CA; the Dixon Education Building at The Society of the Four Arts, in Palm Beach; and the Multifaith Training Center at Auburn Seminary in NYC.

In 2015 White Architecture Studio grew into the energetic studio which continues the excellence brought forth in all of Steven’s previous professional work. WAS advances an enduring portfolio of successful projects, along with pleased clients and delighted occupants who continue to appreciate the thoughtful qualities of these spaces.

Applying his parallel commitments as shareholders’ Architect, as building’s Reviewing Architect and as Board-President, he has made distinct contributions to various New York City residential cooperatives.

While earning a Bachelor of Architecture Cum Laude from Roger Williams University, with ancillary study in structural engineering, he also enjoyed robust academic travel with extensive concentration in Prague and eastern Europe.  He obtained licensure in New York State with an NCARB certificate, and is currently a member of the AIA.

A native of suburban CT, he is now a proud resident of Brooklyn for over twenty years.  While the occasional drive to the country or beach lightens his city life, he is an urbanite at heart.

Mark Lueke

As Senior Project Architect at White Architecture Studio, Mark is instrumental in all facets of the studio.  Grounded in a strong academic foundation, his decade of professional experience has an emphasis on bespoke residential work, as well as spaces for both retail brands and refreshing hospitality experiences.

Since 2016, Mark has brought his extraordinary work ethic, a passion for excellence and a highly critical eye to all that he does with WAS.  He has helped craft a variety of private residential projects in and around New York City, including cooperative building projects, as well as nation-wide commercial projects.

Prior to joining the WAS team, he was a junior project manager at Trimble Architecture where he helped foster the design and construction of residential projects in New York City; nation-wide retail spaces for Lady M Confections and Royce Chocolates; and event planning for Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Kentucky that included coursework in Rome and Tokyo. Having acquired an appreciation for travel-based education, his Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University incorporated study in the Dominican Republic and Shanghai.

Originally from Kentucky, in 2009 he traded horse barns for brownstones and Mark now calls Brooklyn home.

Embodying teamwork and collaboration, our studio embraces diversity, critical thought and personal respect.  We encourage professional development, and subscribe to an ethos that all experience is a constant source of growth.  We never stop learning.
